Yep, I've got the jitters: flying alone for the first time to a completely new place half-way across the world. I'm pretty sure it's a completely normal feeling that is unavoidable, but nevertheless, I... am... nervous! I have been doing my research on important historical facts and figures and learning about Indian culture from my friends, but that does not prepare me for the time I set both of my American feet on Indian soil. I want to do the best work I can at VSSU, which is why I feel more pressure on myself; if I was visiting for pleasure, then I would be more carefree than I am now.
The possibilities are encouraging though. They give me strength to overcome my fears and insecurities. I will have the chance to learn more about micro-finance, community development, and livelihood development. Some of the projects that I might be working on are micro-finance operations, teaching children how to use computers and the internet, and documenting case-studies. The list is endless and I really cannot say exactly what my everyday routine will look like until I arrive in West Bengal. You'll have to wait for an updated blog about my first week at VSSU! Until then, wish me luck and send any comments or advice at any time- the more the merrier!
Good luck! You'll do fine!! :)
